My Thoughts on Artist Websites

I’ve met a lot of artists over the years and had many discussions about the value of personal art websites. I readily admit that I am no expert on the subject nor any authority on marketing. As far as selling my work goes, I figure it’s a bit like fishing. You spend a lot of time trolling, changing lures and trying new locations and seldom catch anything. Ok, I know, I’m a lousy fisherman.

I enjoy watching and listening to artists giving live demos on the internet. The ones that really interest me, though, are the artists that take time to explain why they chose art, how they learned the craft and how they go about choosing a composition. In other words, it leaves me wanting to know more about the artist. It makes their paintings much more interesting too - it’s personal. It’s why the Ten Collective Art Show is so successful for myself and the other nine artists participating. The artists have the opportunity to meet people and show their work to clients and the public under the best conditions for a presentation.

So, last fall, when my homemade website was way past its overdue, I finally made the decision to approach the owners of Hennemann Stanley Design to build a new site for me. Both owners, Eileen Hennimann and Allan Stanley, have years of experience in marketing and design, and they both are successful artists. At the first website building meeting it was explained to me that they needed multi in-depth meetings covering my art history and what drives me to continue painting.

After several months of meetings and design decisions, the site was finished and approved. I like the way they have exhibited my paintings in a clear and organized manner in a website that portrays a warm and genuine presentation of myself as an artist. I hope that through the site I will get to meet new friends and reconnect with others. I’m certain that it will generate more interest in my work and my paintings.

And I am proud of my new website.
